Our History and Purpose

The Mama Fatuma Foundation is registered 501c3 charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of the children in the care of the Mama Fatuma Goodwill Children’s Home. The Foundation was founded on November 15th 2007 by American University Graduate Tyler Alvare.  Tyler had the opportunity to volunteer with Mama Fatuma’s while studying in Kenya with AU’s study abroad Nairobi program where he was inspired by Mama Fatuma’s unsurpassed dedication to the well-being of orphaned children even in the face of tremendous adversity. The Foundation is currently staffed by several dedicated former students from American University’s study abroad Kenya program.

The Mama Fatuma Foundation is a public charity registered in Pennsylvania USA.  The Foundation’s purpose is to be a simple and transparent mechanism for well wishers outside of Kenya to support the home through charitable donations.  The foundation offers direct financial support to the Mama Fatuma Children’s home by paying for school fees, basic necessities, medical care, and providing various in kind donations and services, like water treatment and computers for the new vocational training centre.  For more information contact us at foundation@mamafatumas.org.
